I started oil painting in 2019, but didn’t start properly till about 3/4 years later. These are some of my more recent paintings. I use canvas boards for every painting. They are all reasonably small but I hope to try out larger and bigger surfaces..

I have reduced the quality of my paintings for this section, so they may appear slightly blurred.

Oil Painting

Iris Dragon (unfinished painting)

The largest painting I’ve done in years and possibly the most detailed. I began this in 2023, and do sections every now and again. I hope to finish this in the next few years

I didn’t really know much about oil painting from your imagination when I began this, however have learnt to build up from darker colours, and change my approach.

I designed both the animals in the painting, although they’re far from complete.

Vanitas Painting

This Painting took me 5 months. I completed it in small bursts hence the longer completion date.

I was initially struggling with the composition. If you were to wipe off the paint you would find a worse first attempt beneath. I ended up finding a series of 20 to 30 existing paintings and incorporating different elements of those in this painting as more of a collage…

Pet Portraits

Mr Cuddles

@lilybadiani

This painting was a gift for my aunt and uncle, of their wonderful little dog Mr Cuddles.

It’s the quickest painting I have ever made, and possibly the best pet portrait I have made so far. I will say that I could have possibly used a finer paint brush for this. however I think the thicker strokes add some character. As always my favourite part was bring the eyes to life and adding the highlights to his nose!

Tove

@lilybadiani

This painting was a gift, It took me about a week to complete, I enjoyed painting the shorter hair, and actually found it more difficult than longer hair, since the shades have to be a lot more accurate

Max

@lilybadiani

This painting was a commission. It’s larger than the one above, and took me about 5-6 weeks to complete. I struggled with the tones and the colours, but mainly because I didn’t actually know how to oil paint. And approached this how I do with drawing, starting with the light and filling in. I reworked the light areas and then built up the layers of hair from there.

Lenny Kravitz Painting

This oil painting was commissioned as a gift for Lenny Kravitz! Using a photo of him and his mother, Roxie Roker. Such a wonderful opportunity and a huge thank you to Evadney Keith for commissioning me

This is only my second time oil painting people, and I must say I did find this rather difficult at times. Given that the image is on a smaller scale, getting the facial features accurately placed was particularly challenging. The deadline for this was tight, but I managed to complete it in just 15 days! Overall a joy to paint, and loved using such rich colours.

I was pleased to receive this photo of him holding my painting!
