Psychological Warning Indicators
The team's early telemetry used a full red-to - green gradient on every metric which was technically informative, but it meant astronauts had to consciously parse colour across a dozen readouts just to find what mattered.
Misplaced colour signals in high stress and critical environments lead to:
Alarm Fatigue: Tune out alarm warnings if they occur too frequently
Colour Urgency Coding: Red is effective only as it’s rare. If common will slow cognitive reactions
Maintain Trust through Critical Data
Redesigned the telemetry colour warning system to reserve red exclusively for critical alerts, replacing the existing red-to - green spectrum used across all metrics.
This preserved red's psychological urgency and enabled astronauts and ground control to immediately identify life -threatening issues without scanning multiple gradients under time pressure
IMPACT
I moved from scattered gauges to a consistent linear left-to-right bar system for oxygen, CO2, and pressure. This follows established human factors principles from cockpit and control-room design.
